McFadden, Fincham, practising exclusively in the area of intellectual property, was formed in September 1969 when the late Ronald McFadden of Ottawa, Ontario and Ian Fincham of Montreal, Quebec formed an association of patent and trade-mark agents with offices in Ottawa and Montreal.  In 1980 the Montreal office was merged with the Ottawa office.  The firm continues to practise in downtown Ottawa, close to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office in Gatineau, Quebec and the Federal Court in Ottawa.

Since its formation over forty years ago, the firm has specialized in intellectual property and practised continuously before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and in patent and trade-mark offices throughout the world through our extensive network of foreign associates.  The firm has built up and sustains a reputation for excellent professional service in all areas of intellectual property, establishing close professional relationships with our clients and demonstrating a keen interest in their needs and requirements.  We are very proud to be able to say that many of our original clients who entrusted us with their work in 1969, including direct clients located in Canada, multi-national corporate clients from the United States and associate clients from countries in Europe, Asia and elsewhere, are still our clients and associates today.  We pride ourselves on the fact that our business has been built in large part as a result of referrals from existing clients.

We provide a full range of patent and trade-mark services to associate firms from all over the world and enjoy the trust and confidence which these associate firms display through their continued reliance on our firm.  In addition, through this network of associates who have demonstrated their expertise in the intellectual property field, we are able to provide our clients with advice and service in countries other than Canada.
