Eng., LL.M. Lawyer, Patent Agent and Trade-mark Agent Counsel Senator Joseph Day was appointed to the Senate of Canada in October 2001. Senator Day received his undergraduate education at The Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario, and pursued his law degree at Queen's University Law School in Kingston. He was an honours graduate in the bar admission course, Osgoode Hall, Toronto, Ontario in 1973. Senator Day has extensive experience in the intellectual property field, particularly in the area of patent and trade-mark litigation. He has practised law, specializing in intellectual property law, since 1973. Senator Day was legal counsel to J.D. Irving Limited, a large Canadian corporation having diverse interests, from 1992 to 1999. Before his appointment to the Senate, he was President and CEO of New Brunswick Forest Products Association. Senator Day has been counsel to the firm for a number of years. Senator Day has presented numerous papers dealing with intellectual property at meetings of various professional bodies of which he is a member. He is a frequent lecturer on legal and political matters and spearheaded legislation to amend the Canadian Patent Act in light of the Harvard Mouse case. | |||||
